Loudon Cottage in Loudonville is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. Though the president never resided here, the small home is inextricably linked to his death. On the day that Lincoln was assassinated, one of his guests was Clara Harris, the daughter of Senator Ira Harris; when the president was shot his blood spilled on her white dress and stained it red. Clara returned home to Loudon Cottage and had a special closet built for the dress; after placing the dress inside she sealed the closet up. Sometime afterwards, Clara said that the ghost of Abraham Lincoln appeared in her room, and subsequent occupants of the home have made similar claims.
