Matilda Gillette, born in 1859 and died in 1936, married her husband Francis, who was nine years her junior. After her death, she was buried in Lakeview Cemetery, where her granite headstone inexplicably formed a white profile of her face in a reclined position. Accounts of her marriage vary, but many claim she had a strained relationship with her husband and vowed to haunt him after she passed. Her headstone has also allegedly been replaced once or twice, but the white mark reappeared on the new markers. No amount of polishing has ever been able to remove it.
