There is also a ghostly Onondaga Princess and her groom who make an occasional appearance. The couple escaped from a deadly attack on their tribe by canoe only to have the boat sink in the middle of the lake. Some say that the canoe was dredged up from the lake bottom at one point, but the Natives felt it was sacred and should be left alone; the boat was reinforced with metal and then sent back into the water to sink once more. On some nights the sounds of an Indian massacre and a wailing woman can be heard on the lake.

I've heard the wailing woman before. It was a rather windy afternoon sometime in the mid summer of 1983. The wind was coming out of the east when a sudden gust arose and I distinctly heard the wailing of a woman. My father heard it too and he commented on it. My brother was awakened one autumn night to see a young Native American woman standing outside his window staring at him. His dog was cowering in a corner of the bedroom. We lived on the north west end of the lake.

The northwest corner of the lake is the richest in hauntings. There were several prehistoric Onondaga villages in that area. Their burial grounds scatter the area from he intersection of Westlake Road and Northlake Road as well as Temperance Hill Road. There is a strange vibe in this area and one always feels as if they were being watched.
